This dish is the epitome of clean eating. Steaming is one of the gentlest cooking methods, preserving the delicate texture of the cod and the life-giving nutrients of the broccoli without the need for heavy fats. It is a light, restorative meal that leaves you feeling energized and nourished, making it an ideal choice for a quiet evening or a focused lunch.
Ingredients
300-400g Fresh Cod Fillet: (Ideally sourced from sustainable, wild-caught stock).
1 Large Head of Organic Broccoli: Cut into bite-sized florets.
1 tbsp Organic Olive Oil or Ghee: For drizzling.
A pinch of Sea Salt: To taste.
Fresh Parsley or Chives: Finely chopped for garnish.
Optional: A few slices of fresh ginger in the steaming water for a subtle aroma.
Preparation
Prepare the Steamer: Fill a pot with a few centimeters of water. If you like, add a few slices of fresh ginger to the water to infuse the steam with a gentle, warming scent. Bring to a simmer.
Season the Fish: Pat the cod fillets dry and season lightly with sea salt.
Steam the Components: Place the cod fillets in the steamer basket. Surround them with the broccoli florets.
Timing: Cover and steam for about 6–8 minutes. The cod should be opaque and flake easily with a fork, and the broccoli should be tender-crisp and bright green.
The Finish: Carefully remove the fish and broccoli from the steamer. Drizzle with high-quality olive oil or melted ghee and garnish with fresh herbs. Serve immediately.
Product Recommendation
To complement the high-quality protein of the cod, I recommend incorporating Forever Marine Collagen™ * into your daily routine. While the cod provides essential amino acids, this advanced liquid supplement helps support your body’s natural collagen production, promoting skin elasticity and joint health from the inside out—a perfect addition to your “beauty-from-within” nutrition plan.
Why this Recipe is Low-Histamine Friendly
This meal is designed to be as “quiet” for your system as possible:
Fresh Cod: As a white fish, cod is naturally very low in histamine, provided it is consumed immediately after catch or properly flash-frozen.
Broccoli: A nutritional powerhouse that is generally very well-tolerated and provides essential fiber and Vitamin C.
Pure Cooking Method: Steaming avoids the formation of biogenic amines that can occur with high-heat frying or long braising times.
Important “Watch-Out” Points
Freshness is Absolute: Ensure your fish is incredibly fresh. If it has a “fishy” odor, the histamine levels have already begun to rise.
No Lemon Juice: Avoid the traditional squeeze of lemon, as citrus can act as a histamine liberator. Use Verjus or fresh herbs for a flavor lift instead.
Broccoli Stems: Don’t forget to peel and slice the stems—they are delicious and contain even more fiber than the florets!
